Kirin Brewery Co. said Wednesday it aims to sell 165.9 million cases of beer in 2011, a 2.4% decrease from 2010.
Like other companies in the industry, the Tokyo-based brewer, a unit of Kirin Holdings Co. (2503.TO), is experiencing a tough business environment in Japan, where a shrinking population and a weak economy are eroding sales.
Earlier this week, Asahi Breweries Ltd. (2502.TO) regained the top spot in the Japanese beer market in 2010 in terms of number of cases shipped. In 2009, Kirin knocked Asahi off the top spot for the first time in nine years.
