Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. said Friday its products topped the imported beer market of South Korea in 2011 with a share of 28.3 percent.

The Japanese company sold 12.55 million liters of beer in the country last year, up 22 percent from the previous year, it said.

South Korea’s beer market has been continuing to grow, and Asahi is aiming to sell 15.12 million liters for 2012, up 20 percent.

Asahi began exporting beer to South Korea in 2000. It has been promoting the brand and expanding marketing networks in the country through Lotte Asahi Liquor Co., a joint venture established in 2004 with South Korea’s Lotte group, in which Asahi has a 15 percent stake.
