Kirin Holdings Co, one of Japan’s largest brewing companies, is considering entering the Burmese beer market, according to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun. Kirin Holdings is reportedly considering selling its Ichiban Shibori brand in Burma with the help of San Miguel, a Filipino brewery in which it has a 48 percent stake. Kirin Holdings also aims to buy the beverage arm of Singapore-based Fraser and Neave Ltd, which already has a subsidiary in Burma, Myanmar Brewery. The report said that beer consumption is expected to increase in Burma as its economy grows with greater democratization.
