UK. Molson Coors’ ?175m brewery investment

Molson Coors, the Carling brewer, is set to invest ?175m in its UK breweries, according to the Daily Telegraph this morning.

The company has committed to spending an extra ?15m each year over the next five years, on top of existing capital plans.

It will see the brewer’s Burton-on-Trent site modernised to be more efficient, with the target of saving one billion litres of water by 2012 and reducing energy reduction by 20% by 2020. There will also be investment in its packaging operation.

In addition, ?5m will be spent on Molson Coors’ Sharp’s Brewery in Cornwall.

Molson Coors Uk chief executive Mark Hunter said: “This major investment is recognition that we have to keep on modernising in a tough market place.”
