Officials of the Food Safety Department on Wednesday seized more than 1,300 bottles of expired beer from the State Beverages Corporation outlet at Edappally.

Based on a tip-off that expired liquor was being sold in the outlet, officials carried out a raid and found bottles of expired beer. The raid was based on a complaint from a consumer who experienced health problems after consuming a beer bought from the outlet.

“More than 1,300 bottles of several beer brands that had gone past their shelf life were seized during the raid. Samples of the drink have been sent to regional analytical lab at Kakkanad,” said a food safety official.

Action will be taken against the Bevco officials who are responsible for selling expired alcoholic drink, based on the lab report.

Several of the beer bottles had completed their date of expiry in July last year.
