Carlsberg closes its famous Tetley’s brewery in Leeds on June 17. Nearly 190 years of brewing history in Leeds will come to an end when the brewery stops brewing and production of Tetley’s beer will be transferred to Marston’s-owned Banks’s brewery in Wolverhampton, Molson Coors’ brewery in Tadcaster and Cameron’s Brewery in Hartlepool. Anheuser-Busch InBev , the world’s largest brewer, will invest several hundred million dollars in China this year, a sharp increase over past investments, the China Daily reported on Saturday, citing the company’s chief executive. Carlos Brito, CEO of the Belgium-based company, did not disclose an exact figure but said the investment followed “impressive growth” in China last year. (more…)
Annual beer consumption in Vietnam, that is taking the second position in beer consumption in the Southeast Asian Region, after Cambodia, is expected to increase to 4 billion litres by 2015, according to the nation’s industry and trade ministry (MoIT). The country’s beer consumption has risen by an average of 20% per year since 2003. Last year around 2.7 billion litres of beer were sold in the domestic market, according to figures released by MoIT . (more…)
Heineken International has announced that it has extended its contract with UEFA to sponsor the UEFA Champions League for a further three years. Heineken’s new agreement will see its current deal with the world’s most prestigious club tournament extend until the end of the 2014/15 season. Craft brewers had another excellent sales report in Symphony IRI Group scan data of beer sales in supermarkets, drug stores and convenience stores. The strong latest results showed faster growth than the year to date, which showed faster growth than the 52-week rolling year. (more…)
