Since April 2015 sales of alcoholic beverages in kiosks or minimarkets in Indonesia are forbidden. Previously, light alcoholic beverages, such as beer or breezers, could be bought in these shops that have mushroomed in Indonesian cities. This was bad news for producers of light alcoholic beverages because it was made less easy to buy an alcoholic beverage. (more…)
World of Beer, the Tampa-based craft tavern concept featuring 550+ craft and international beers, today announced it has signed a franchise agreement to expand internationally for the first time. The new tavern will be located in Shanghai, China and is slated to open in the second quarter of this year. Franchisee Cong Yin and his two partners plan to open at least three locations in Shanghai over the next three years. (more…)

Officials from the department of prohibition and excise are hoping that an average of nearly 2,500 to 3,000 beer cases will be sold daily in the city during the summer as against the average daily sale of 2,000 beer cases during the rest of the year. (more…)

Dutch brewer Heineken International on Wednesday moved closer to gaining a controlling stake in India’s largest beer manufacturer United Breweries (UB), acquiring 4.2 million equity shares through bulk deals on the stock exchange. Heineken spent around Rs 358 crore to increase its stake in the beer company to 43.97% from 42.38%. (more…)

Even as a consortium of banks led by State Bank of India (SBI) is struggling to recover loan dues amounting to Rs 9,091 crore from UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya, the Commercial Taxes Department of Karnataka has issued an order to recover tax dues amounting to several lakhs of rupees from Mallya-controlled United Breweries Limited (UBL).
