Preliminary results of 2018 confirm the trend for the beer production stabilization. The decline that started as far back as 10 years ago and went even steeper in 2014-2015, seems to have stopped. But one should hardly expect a considerable market growth in the coming years. Unstable volume growth was set off by higher selling prices by big and regional brewers. Carlsberg Group stands out from the market leaders by their positive dynamics improvements of the product mix. Growth of Obolon was provided by export contracts. AB InBev Efes so far have not managed to climb into positive territory. (more…)

BrauBeviale 2018: The gathering place for the industry is bigger and more international than ever

After three successful days, BrauBeviale is closing its doors on a record high note. Over 40,000 trade visitors (2016: 37,923) – over 18,000 of them international – travelled to Nuremberg to attend this year’s most important capital goods exhibition for the beverage industry from 13 to 15 November 2018. While there, 1,094 exhibitors – 53 percent of them international – presented their products and solutions related to the entire beverage production process chain, with offerings ranging from raw materials to technologies and components all the way to packaging, as well as accessories and marketing ideas. Against the background of the beer market pickup in the first half of 2018, Carlsberg Group decreased their share while Efes and Heineken on the contrary performed well. However, the riot growth of cheapened economy brands by Carlsberg Group can change the situation by the end of the year. Besides, the share of private brands and German 5.0 Original, that is distributed by aggressively growing retailer Krasnoe&Beloe has increased considerably. The affordability of product in each price segments has become the key factor of competition in the modern trade. The enduring popularity of Zhigulevskoe and Draft in Off-Trade as well as the dales decline of youth brands are associated to the consumption shift towards older age groups. (more…)
