India. Liquor, beer sales go up by 15% in Telangana

Despite opening of toddy shops, Telangana has created a new record in sale of liquor and beer. Over five crore cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and beer were sold in the ten districts of Telangana till February. Another 10 to 15 lakh cases are expected to be added in March, this year. The sales of liquor and beer fetched Rs 11,450 crore to the state government so far. (more…)

Although Dutch brewer Heineken is the biggest stakeholder in United Breweries, joint venture partner Vijay Mallya has the right to choose his successor as chairman of the company, according to the terms of a 2009 agreement. India. Beer sale to pick up as summer sets in Vizag

As the mercury soared to above 38 degree Celsius in the city, sale of beers is set to rise as well.

Officials from the department of prohibition and excise are hoping that an average of nearly 2,500 to 3,000 beer cases will be sold daily in the city during the summer as against the average daily sale of 2,000 beer cases during the rest of the year. (more…)

Dutch brewer Heineken International on Wednesday moved closer to gaining a controlling stake in India’s largest beer manufacturer United Breweries (UB), acquiring 4.2 million equity shares through bulk deals on the stock exchange. India. Karnataka orders recovery of tax dues from UBL

Even as a consortium of banks led by State Bank of India (SBI) is struggling to recover loan dues amounting to Rs 9,091 crore from UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya, the Commercial Taxes Department of Karnataka has issued an order to recover tax dues amounting to several lakhs of rupees from Mallya-controlled United Breweries Limited (UBL).
