Carlsberg’s Q1 sales hit by China decline, currency headwind

Danish brewer Carlsberg A/S on Wednesday said sales fell more than expected in the first quarter due to decline in the Chinese market and foreign exchange fluctuation.

Sales fell 3 percent to 13.01 billion Danish crowns ($1.99 billion), missing the 13.18 billion crowns average of 14 analyst estimates compiled by Thomson Reuters. The negative impact from foreign exchange amounted to 5 percentage points, the brewer said. (more…)

In 2015, brewers of Kazakhstan cut the production by 3% to 47.7 mln dal of beer. The dynamics of beer production was very uneven throughout the year. The second quarter of 2015 was a disaster for all Kazakh brewers. And in the fourth quarter, in November and December, the production grew unexpectedly. Such fluctuations are difficult to explain with market reasons. That is why we tried to analyze even the impact factors that run beyond the frames of the official statistics.
