Global hop market

A local alternative to mass beer suggested by independent brewers has been successful and is now altering the global market. Beer is becoming more diversified, so transnational companies have to accept the new game rules and to switch focus to young and fast growing markets. All these processes increased the demand for aroma and bitter hop as well as their acreage expansion on two continents. However now there appeared a downward trend of alcohol consumption in the world, so even special sorts can soon turn to be sufficient. In this connection the dynamic American hop market is already facing some problems. EU hop producers have become more cautious, they are not racing to exceed the demand and look forward with more confidence, judging by the contract terms. 

Hop Market in Russia

Germany still dominates the Russian market, yet over the recent two years one has been able observe a continuous success of Czech hop suppliers. Their expansion and growing popularity of hops from the United States became the drivers of supplies growth in 2016 despite the preceding modest harvest crop in the EU, as well as the factor of relative stability in 2017. In this connection, in 2017, the ratio of the varieties continued to shift towards the aroma ones, and the supplies of Magnum hop and other alpha varieties were reduced. However, the import of bitter hop pellets is partially replaced by extracts, especially from the major beer manufacturers. Total volumes of alpha acid supplies, according to our estimation, decreased by approximately 5% and returned to the level of 2015. Barth Haas Group continues dominating the hop products market; HVG also increased its weight. At the same time, Morris Hanbury significantly reduced the supplies in 2017.

Trade fair duo presents a complete package

The successful trade fair duo drink technology India and International PackTech India continues to grow. Almost 300 exhibitors, approximately a third more than two years ago, will present the full range of products for the packaging, packaging printing, processing, beverage, food and liquid food industry in Mumbai from 6 - 8. November. When it comes to the hall space rental, the organisers, Messe Mьnchen and Messe Dьsseldorf, anticipate an increase of about 50%.

India is still considered to be one of the most attractive markets in the world. The middle class on the subcontinent is expected to grow to number some 580 million by 2025– a predominantly young and consumerist section of society. However, the use of state-of-the-art technology and processes is essential, in order to be able to meet the customers’ rising expectations. That the two trade fairs, drink technology India and International PackTech India, act in concert is also demonstrated by the joint official German participation which allows 16 companies from Germany to present their goods within a corporate stand. In addition, International PackTech India will presumably feature official national presentations from France, Italy, Turkey and Switzerland. drink technology India will come up with joint presentations from China and the UK.
Demand from the exhibitors is already high. About 300 companies, international corporations as well as regionally active suppliers from India, are planning to present their products and processes on some 12,000 square metres of the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre. Companies such as Bьhler, Clearpack India, Cama Group, COESIA India, Ehcolo A/S, GEA, Haffmans, Hinterkopf, KHS, Krones, MultiPack Systems, Ronchi Mario Spa, Sidel, Siemens, Theegarten-Pactec and Ziemann have already registered and announced new product launches. The exhibitors will focus their activities on the requirements of the Indian market and present customised solutions and products.
This is the second time that the trade fair duo is taking place, and the organisers, Messe Mьnchen (drink technology India) and Messe Dьsseldorf (International PackTech India) and their Indian subsidiaries anticipate a considerable increase in the number of visitors, too. In 2010, 201 exhibitors from 22 different countries welcomed over 6,000 trade visitors. This year about 8,000 experts are expected, top-managers as well as technicians, engineers and users from the middle-management.
The concentrated know-how of the two world-class fair organisers and the synergy effects between the packaging, processing and the F&B industry were received with great interest in the booming economic area of India, promising a very successful fair, especially since the exhibitors’ presentations will be augmented by a Fair Forum with lectures given by the companies exhibiting at the fair and a conference dealing with current industry issues.
