Anheuser-Busch closing Manitowoc malt plant by year’s end

Anheuser-Busch is planning to shut down its downtown Manitowoc malt facility later this year.
Plant manager David Luckow said the company performed an extensive review of current and future malting needs, according to a media release issued Thursday by the company.
“Based on current market forecasts, location of raw material supply and more efficient malting processes, the company determined that current malting needs are being sufficiently met through other sources, including its malting facilities in Idaho and Minnesota,” Luckow said.
The Manitowoc plant is expected to remain in operation for an estimated six to nine months as production winds down. The plant has 13 employees.
There are no plans to change operations at any of Anheuser-Busch’s other plants.
